Corte Roncati- a garden for disabled people
Corte Roncati, a side of Roncati Hospital in Bologna, is one of the most important centers of Italy dedicated to neuromotive and cognitive disabilities, in addition to the search for aids for autonomy. This quiet garden was designed specifically to be an example of accessible and inclusive design
Example of participatory design, it is born following the suggestions of the managers of various healthy sectors. The guiding idea was to consider disability as one of the possible conditions of daily living, both stable and temporary.
In this space, natural materials and handicrafts have been inserted specifically designed to communicate warmth and trace of human intervention. The benches and the gilt table have light mosaic vegetal motifs, the fountain accessible to the outside is actually made by the author specifically for this garden, gazebo and pergola are blacksmith works. Available games are accessible.
Here is also an acrobatic path accessible between the trees in stable form, the first example at least in Europe. A discreetly placed sound diffusion is available for measured musical performances and telling interesting stories for visitors.
The beneficial plants used are the existing Cedar, Boxwood, Pomegranate, Osmanthus, Arbutus and Rose.
